Central Electric Announces Youth Tour Participants

Each year, Central Electric sponsors area students to participate in the National Rural Electric Youth Tour to Washington, DC.

This year, Central Electric is sponsoring six students to attend Youth Tour. The recipients are Kaitlyn Asmus of Mitchell, daughter of Mike and Debbie Asmus; Abigail Hanson of Alexandria, daughter of Jason and Rita Hanson; Madalyn Hattervig of Carthage, daughter of Clair and Christine Hattervig; Jennifer Luczak of Letcher, daughter of Frank and Angie Luczak; Stephanie Fauhlaber of Wessington Springs, daughter of Rodney and Teresa Fauhlaber; and Luke Mairose of Kimball, son of Steve and Mary Mairose.

The Rural Electric Youth Tour consists of an educational week long trip to meet students from other states, meet congressional leaders, learn about cooperatives and to tour the historic sites. South Dakota’s students will team up with more than 1,400 teens from around the country.

Among the sites that are part of the tour are the Lincoln Memorial, Washington National Cathedral, the White House, Air and Space Museum, Washington Monument, U.S. Capitol, Ford’s Theater, the Kennedy Center, Arlington National Cemetery, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the FDR Memorial, the Smithsonian, Iwo Jima Statue, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, Mount Vernon and the National Archives.Students will also have the opportunity to ride the Metro – the city subway system – and take a boat cruise on the Potomac River.

The weeklong trip will be held on June 10-17, 2016.
