Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week

Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week logoTouchstone Energy Cooperatives and KSFY Television have joined together to recognize the achievements of high school senior's throughout the region. "Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week" has been celebrating the achievements of high school seniors since 2002.

Recipients are highly motivated high school seniors who excel in the classroom and community. This program was founded on the four pillars of Touchstone Energy: Integrity, Accountability, Innovation and a Commitment to Community.

Area school principals and faculty nominate students for this award, based on excellence in the classroom, service in the community and extracurricular participation. The KSFY staff makes weekly selections throughout the school year.

2016-2017 Academic Year Recipients

Emery, SD—Hannah Harberts, a student at Bridgewater-Emery High School, was named Touchstone Energy® Scholar of the Week for the week of September 18-24, 2016. Harberts is the daughter of Bryan and Angie Harberts of Emery.

 Harberts was nominated by Bridgewater-Emery School Counselor Jennifer Gloden. Gloden says that in addition to being friendly to her peers and always having a smile on her face, “[Hannah] is a strong leader and motivates those around her.”

 Harberts balances her impressive GPA alongside numerous extracurricular activities. She is involved in volleyball, basketball, student council, FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of American), HOSA-Future Health Professionals, yearbook, pep club, National Honor Society, and is a statistician for football. Harberts intends to pursue a career in pediatrics.

 General Manager Ken Schlimgen presented a $100 scholarship to Harberts on behalf of Central Electric Cooperative. Central Electric Cooperative is Touchstone Energy Cooperative that provides electric power to over 4,800 farm, residential and commercial consumer-members in Hanson, Davison, Aurora, Brule, Buffalo, Jerauld, Sanborn, and Miner counties.

 The Scholar of the Week scholarship was created by KSFY and Touchstone Energy Cooperatives to recognize outstanding students across the state who set an example of hard work and high academic standards. Area school principals and faculty nominate students for this award, based on excellence in the classroom, service in the community and extracurricular participation. The KSFY staff makes weekly selections throughout the school year.
